From Stroke to Ultra Marathon: Juan Gonzales' Remarkable Journey

Whatever is in your way, the obstacle is the way. And then you'll, with that lesson, with that lesson, you'll be able to take that lesson into the next obstacle and another one that might come up in the future that you never know is around the corner.
Imagine being 21 and suddenly facing a life-altering hemorrhagic stroke. That’s exactly what happened to Juan Gonzales. In this episode of 'Recovery After Stroke', Juan shares his incredible story of recovery, perseverance, and the power of determination. Eleven years after his stroke, Juan is now training for an ultra marathon, a testament to his unwavering spirit.
After his brain surgery, Juan was fortunate to be near the Rosk Rehabilitation Center in New York City, which played a crucial role in his recovery. But the journey was far from easy. He dealt with significant fatigue and had to relearn basic physical activities. Yet, instead of giving up, Juan found motivation in the small victories, like running in the park or taking the stairs instead of the escalator.
His story is a powerful reminder that obstacles can be turned into stepping stones. As Juan puts it, 'Whatever is in your way, the obstacle is the way'. Tune in to hear how gratitude and determination have fueled Juan's journey from stroke survivor to ultra marathon trainee.
