Aquia's Journey: From Childhood Pain to Sobriety

I came up here with no intentions on staying clean and I ended up staying clean.
What does it take to overcome a decade of addiction starting from childhood? In this episode of 'Stories of Addiction', you'll hear from Aquia, a young woman who began abusing alcohol at just 12 years old. Born to a teenage mother who prioritized her relationships over her children, Aquia's early life was marred by neglect and emotional turmoil. Seeking solace, she turned to alcohol, which soon led to methamphetamine and heroin use by her late teens.
By 22, she was living either on the streets or in jail, her life spiraling out of control. But Aquia's story doesn't end there. Now 23 and residing at Gault House in Santa Cruz, California, she has found a path to recovery and is working at 5 Guys Burgers. In her own words, Aquia recounts her harrowing journey through addiction and the steps she's taken to rebuild her life.
She emphasizes the crucial role of community and support in her recovery process. Her candid account serves as a powerful reminder that no matter how dire the circumstances, there is always hope for a better future. If you're grappling with addiction or know someone who is, Aquia's story is a beacon of hope, illustrating that recovery is possible with determination and the right support system.
