The key is to realize that I didn't accomplish this thing because you wanted me to watch football. If I'd have been like, hey, I'm going to go get some steps. And I didn't tell him I was making the conscious decision to not finish getting those steps on Saturday. So in these meetings, noticing a lack of personal responsibility, I expect that. I'm saying this to you because you might find yourself at the beginning stage of getting sober, at the beginning stages of starting up a new habit. And maybe you get checked by life and you don't get to keep your 10,000 steps, or you have to meet somebody face-to-face for the first time in 30 days after it was a very contentious goodbye. And there might be that desire in you to kick back and blame them and complain about them and make excuses for your behavior and throw all your power at their feet and see what they do with it.
Ever felt like anxiety has set up camp in your mind and refuses to leave? In this episode of 'From Sobriety to Recovery', Jesse Mogle gets real about his own battles with anxiety, habit formation, and personal responsibility. Even after six and a half years of sobriety, Jesse is still navigating the ups and downs of recovery, proving that the journey is ongoing and ever-evolving.
He opens up about the emotional rollercoaster of breaking his 10,000-steps-a-day streak and how it affected him deeply. But instead of letting it defeat him, Jesse uses it as a lesson in resilience and self-awareness. He stresses the importance of taking full responsibility for our actions and emotions, rather than handing over our power to external forces.
Jesse also touches on the challenges of supporting family members through their own addiction recovery, offering a compassionate perspective on how to be there for loved ones while maintaining your own mental health. With his candid storytelling and practical advice, Jesse invites listeners to embrace their own journeys, setbacks and all. This episode is a heartfelt reminder that recovery is not just about staying sober; it's about growing stronger every day.
