Alan Charles: Battling Demons and Finding Redemption

You know it's not like the greatest thing in my life or whatever, but it does deserve an acknowledgment. As far as I'm concerned, when you are addicted to drugs, you know the drugs have control of your life, and so to be able to not only come back from that and get clean and sober, but to remain clean and sober, for what is it like over 10,000 days, you know, I mean that's a lot, that's a lot of days.
Alan Charles' life reads like a gripping novel filled with ups and downs that many can relate to. Growing up in a small garden apartment community, Alan faced early tragedy with the loss of his father. This left him navigating a tumultuous household with an emotionally shattered mother and a brother struggling with mental illness. To escape the chaos, Alan threw himself into before-and-after-school jobs, baseball, and harness racing—anything to stay out of the house.
Baseball became his lifeline, taking him to college and eventually to the University of Miami and the University of Tampa as a starting pitcher. However, dreams of professional baseball were dashed by an arm injury that took away his pitching speed. Despite this setback, Alan played a season in the Dominican Republic before transitioning into various sales jobs and another dream: harness racing. But beneath these pursuits lay a growing struggle with addiction.
Alan's journey to recovery was anything but straightforward. He hit rock bottom before realizing he needed help. Now, after more than 10,000 days of sobriety, Alan shares his story with raw honesty in this episode of 'The Addiction Podcast - Point of No Return'. His tale underscores the importance of seeking help and building a strong support system. If you're looking for a story that blends resilience, struggle, and ultimate redemption, this episode is a must-listen.
