Aileen C.: Overcoming a Tough Past to Embrace Sobriety
Now, the day-to-day experiences with my family as they are now, are all things I would have missed if Alcoholics Anonymous wasn't in my life.
Aileen C.'s journey is one that many will find both heartbreaking and inspiring. Growing up in a violent and abusive environment, Aileen turned to drugs and alcohol at an early age just to cope. Her adult life was filled with dangerous relationships and a deep sense of self-loathing, leading her down a path of despair and suicidal thoughts. But Aileen's story doesn't end there.
It took in-patient mental health treatment, private therapy, and the unwavering support of a mentor to guide her into Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and other 12-step programs. Despite slipping after 15 months of sobriety, Aileen found her way back to AA and has now been sober for 12 years. In this episode of 'AA Recovery Interviews', Howard L.
talks with Aileen about the pivotal moments that led her to seek help and the incredible role that AA has played in her recovery. Aileen shares how the support of her sponsor and the AA community helped her rebuild her life and repair family relationships. Her dedication to AA is evident in her service work and her role as a meeting secretary. Through her story, Aileen demonstrates the transformative power of mentorship and community support in overcoming addiction.
Whether you're struggling with addiction yourself or supporting someone who is, Aileen's journey offers valuable insights and hope.
