Chelsea Pegues on Grief, Addiction, and Finding Hope

I've never been interested in sort of imposing or saying: there's only one way, and you know, I have a friend and she works in harm reduction in many, many ways, and so it's always interesting to me to hear her perspectives on things about, like people who are hard drug users and like: hey, we're just trying to make their life a little bit better Today, as you just said.
What does it mean to truly understand addiction when you haven't experienced it firsthand? In this episode of 'A is for Alcoholic', John sits down with Chelsea Pegues, host of the Stiicky Eddie Podcast. Chelsea's journey is deeply personal—her father passed away due to complications from alcoholism. Despite not being an alcoholic herself, Chelsea is committed to understanding addiction and supporting those who struggle with it.
She shares her insights on growing up in an environment marked by alcohol and the profound impact it had on her family. Chelsea's story is one of empathy and discovery. She talks about her own experiences with substances like weed and alcohol, which she initially turned to as an escape from a traumatic childhood. However, she quickly learned that these substances could also lead to dark places.
Through her podcast, Chelsea aims to shed light on the complexities of addiction and offer a platform for others affected by it. A significant part of the conversation revolves around harm reduction. Chelsea shares how her views evolved, especially after learning from friends involved in harm reduction work. She stresses that there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution to addiction—each person needs tailored support. This perspective challenges the often rigid and judgmental attitudes that can surround addiction and recovery.
Throughout the episode, Chelsea's compassion is evident. She speaks candidly about her father's struggles and her own journey toward healing. The conversation is both heartfelt and informative, offering a fresh look at how we can approach addiction with more understanding and less judgment. If you're looking for a story that blends personal experience with broader insights into addiction and recovery, this episode is a must-listen.
Chelsea Pegues' narrative is a poignant reminder that hope and healing are possible, even in the face of profound loss.
