Liz Torres: From Addiction's Grasp to a Life Reclaimed
Now, all my life people know you don't touch my drugs, you don't touch my paraphernalia, don't touch anything that belongs to me. She would come every day before o 'clock, minutes before, to take me to an na meeting. I did everything the way it was supposed to be done.
Liz Torres' story is one of heartbreak, resilience, and ultimate triumph. Growing up in Puerto Rico, Liz faced a rough start when her father put her and her sister up for adoption. Moving to Connecticut with her foster parents, she endured significant abuse. By 17, Liz was entangled with a much older drug supplier who introduced her to cocaine, leading her down a dark path.
Her addiction became so severe that she required emergency surgery due to the damage it caused. Despite this, she continued using, eventually losing her job after a mandatory drug test came back positive. Even her drug supplier cut her off when he saw how deeply she was consumed by addiction. The situation grew so dire that Liz chose drugs over buying food for her kids. However, Liz's story doesn't end there.
Now a CCAR Volunteer Manager and a person in recovery, she shares her journey from the depths of addiction to the heights of recovery. Liz credits her success to the support network she built and the power of forgiveness. She emphasizes meeting people where they are and treating them with dignity and respect. Her tale is not just inspiring but also a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of recovery.
