Find out who you really are and stick to it. It's not who you are, it's who do you want to be. You get to create that, and that is your gift.
What happens when the guy who seems to have it all is secretly falling apart? Matt Evans appeared to be living the dream: a beautiful family, a solid career, and a circle of friends. But beneath the surface, he was battling severe anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts, numbing his pain with alcohol each night. The turning point came with the threat of divorce and a night in a police cell. That’s when Matt decided to quit drinking for good.
Fast forward three and a half years, and Matt’s life has transformed in ways he never imagined. His health is at its peak, his marriage is stronger than ever, and he’s become a more understanding and compassionate father. The cherry on top? The couple welcomed a new baby boy into their family. Matt’s career has soared, and he’s now coaching others and organizing Birmingham’s largest charity event, aiming to raise over £100K for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
But Matt’s story isn’t just about personal triumph; it’s about the broader issue of men in recovery. He noticed that men are underrepresented in large recovery groups and is passionate about changing that. Through his coaching and charity work, Matt is dedicated to breaking the stigma and offering hope to others. This episode of 'Together S.O.B.E.R.' with Louise Barnett is not just a tale of personal redemption but a call to recognize the unique struggles men face in recovery.
It’s a powerful reminder that no matter how deep the darkness, there’s always a path to the light.
