Heidi Aulaumea: Creating a Family for Troubled Teens at Odyssey House

I think the reason our program has been so successful in the last year since I've been there, is that we give them that space to be themselves, to be vulnerable and to be honest, because that's our biggest thing is I really don't care.
What does it take to make a real difference in the lives of troubled teens? Heidi Aulaumea, with over 20 years of experience, knows the answer lies in love and compassion. As the program manager at a residential house, Heidi has dedicated her life to helping young people struggling with substance use and behavior issues. Her approach, deeply rooted in her Polynesian heritage, emphasizes creating a family-like environment where kids feel valued and cared for.
In this heartfelt episode of 'Odyssey House Journals', Heidi opens up about the emotional journey of working with these teens and the profound impact it has on both her and the young people she helps. She shares touching success stories, like that of a young woman who overcame immense challenges to graduate with high honors from the military.
Heidi believes that by treating these teens as family, giving them space to be themselves, and showing them unwavering compassion, they can find a new sense of purpose and direction. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in the power of love and community in recovery.
