That was really a key thing for me is setting that start date. How much time from the appointment with the better help therapist to the September, like stop date? It was less than a month, but weeks that I had to wrap my head around it and being telling people that I was going to do it was solidifying my commitment.
Have you ever wondered what it looks like to hide your struggles behind a seemingly perfect life? Kim Taal, a 37-year-old from Toronto, Canada, knows this all too well. On the outside, she appeared to have it all together—a successful career in food sales and a happy life as a fur mama. But beneath the surface, Kim was grappling with severe mental, emotional, and physical breakdowns due to hidden addictions.
Her friends and colleagues had no idea about her battles; even those she partied with didn't see the problem. Kim believed that better habits were the key to happiness and health, but soon realized she needed more profound help. She found solace and support in a community that guided her through recovery, leading her to nearly two years of sobriety. Kim's story is a powerful reminder that addiction doesn't have a 'look'—it can affect anyone, anywhere.
She emphasizes the importance of community support and kindness, not just towards others but also towards oneself. Through her journey with the Sober City Movement, Kim highlights how preparation and readiness can transform lives. This episode offers a raw and honest look at the realities of addiction and recovery, providing hope and inspiration for anyone facing similar struggles.
