My understanding of a higher power today is so much different than I had if I had any before, and my higher power is stronger than this obsession, but, like anything, it's still there and if I don't take care of it, if I don't take the medicine that's necessary for me to ward this obsession off, it will overtake me again, and I don't want that to happen.
Imagine growing up with the shadow of your father's alcoholism looming over you. That was Don Shannon's reality. His earliest memories are tinged with his father's struggles, and soon enough, Don found himself walking a similar path. By the time he was in high school, marijuana and alcohol had become his escape, his constant companions. Unlike his friends, who could easily call it a night, Don found himself unable to stop.
His life spiraled out of control, and he hit rock bottom. But that wasn't the end of his story—it was the beginning of a new chapter. Through the support of Alcoholics Anonymous and a higher power, Don began to piece his life back together. He stepped out of the club where he had been hiding and started living again. Today, Don is a recovery coach and counselor, dedicating his life to helping others find their own path to recovery.
He knows firsthand that the obsession never truly goes away, but with the right support and tools, it can be managed. Don's story is one of hope and resilience, a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome even the darkest times.
