Katelynn Spencer: From Mortician to Advocate Against Online Exploitation

I'm going to make sure that nobody goes through what I went through, because I can tell you right now, out of every, all the survivors that I've met- because I met there was of us from around the world that recently got together in California, and every single one of them, for the most part, was: yeah, I want to die, I'm going to kill myself.
Imagine turning a harrowing personal ordeal into a mission to help others. That's exactly what Katelynn Spencer did. At 32, living in Massachusetts with her four cats and numerous plants, Katelynn's life took a dramatic turn from being a mortician to becoming an advocate against online sexual exploitation. Her journey is not just a story of survival but one of resilience and transformation.
Katelynn's experience with image-based exploitation, often referred to as 'revenge porn', and her battles with mental health issues and eating disorders, paint a vivid picture of the challenges many face in silence. Yet, she chose to fight back. Speaking at Capitol Hill in June 2022, alongside other survivors, Katelynn's voice has become a beacon of hope for many.
This episode of 'Voices of Resilience: Triumph Over Trauma' delves into Katelynn's journey, shedding light on the dark realities of online exploitation while emphasizing the power of advocacy and support. Listeners will find themselves moved by her courage and inspired to take action against such injustices. If you're looking for a story that combines heartbreak with hope, this episode is a must-listen.
