We have to be really careful that as parents or relatives, we don't want to take a punitive approach. Allowing them to make their own decisions, allowing them to decide what kind of treatment is best for them, allowing them to tell us what it is they need so that we can tell the people that make the laws what would be the most helpful for people who are using substances.
Imagine losing a child to substance use disorder and turning that pain into a mission for change. In this heartfelt episode of 'Rural Roads', host Tim Raybould and co-host Robert Childs sit down with Diane Cardin-Glynn, the founder of ECM for Change. Diane opens up about her journey after losing her son, Michael, to an overdose. Her story is not just one of personal loss but also of resilience and advocacy.
She discusses the challenges families face and the importance of community support and understanding. Diane's work with ECM for Change and her involvement with GRASP (Grief Recovery After a Substance Passing) are testament to her commitment to creating meaningful change. She shares how addressing stigma, pushing for legislative reform, and offering holistic support can make a real difference for those affected by substance use disorder.
This episode offers a raw, compassionate look at the impact of addiction on families and the power of advocacy in driving change. Listeners will gain valuable insights into the emotional and practical aspects of dealing with substance use disorder within a family.
