Chico West: A 32-Year Journey from Addiction to Recovery

I will give him some credit for my sobriety today because he held the line because I would manipulate my mom, and he, you know, he made it clear that shit ain't happening.
Chico West has lived a life marked by early exposure to alcohol and the tragic loss of family members due to alcohol-related accidents. In this episode of 'Sober Shares', Chico opens up about his 32-year journey to sobriety. Growing up, alcohol was a constant presence in his family, and the deaths of his father and aunt in separate car accidents fueled his fear and anger.
This emotional turmoil led him to start drinking regularly as a teenager, and soon, his alcoholism spiraled out of control, resulting in blackouts and erratic behavior. A turning point came when he assaulted a peace officer in Texas, which prompted him to seek help out of sheer fear. Chico's path to recovery began at Sierra Tucson treatment center and continued at a sober living facility in Atlanta, where he was introduced to the twelve-step AA program.
Chico's story is not just about overcoming addiction but also about finding spirituality, grace, and gratitude through recovery. He talks candidly about the importance of self-awareness and how being of service to others has been a cornerstone of his sobriety. His journey is filled with honesty and vulnerability, offering listeners a powerful testament to the transformative power of Alcoholics Anonymous and the role of spirituality in healing. Tune in to hear Chico's inspiring story and find hope in his experiences.
