Creating a Sober Community: Molly Ruggere's Journey on Seltzer Squad
I think that we started with a meetup group on meetups and facebook. So that was when we kind of changed the whole trajectory of what it was going to be and went from it being this in-person event based group, very local to Charlotte, to an online virtual community with events like what you all participated in the panels and like we do: tarot, card parties and book club and yoga and all these things.
What happens when you mix a passion for helping others with a commitment to sobriety? You get Molly Ruggere, a certified life coach and founder of Counterculture Club. In this episode of 'Seltzer Squad - Staying Sober In The City', hosts Kate Zander and Jess Valentine sit down with Molly to explore her path to living alcohol-free and her mission to support others on the same journey.
Molly opens up about her early experiences with alcohol, which started in her teenage years and escalated during college and her time in New York City. She recounts how drinking became a way to fit in and socialize, eventually leading her to seek help. One of the most compelling parts of the conversation is Molly's emphasis on community. She believes that having a supportive group of people who share your values is crucial for recovery.
This belief led her to create Counterculture Club, a community that offers both virtual and in-person events like yoga, tarot readings, and book clubs. These activities provide a safe space for women to connect and grow without the influence of alcohol. Molly also discusses the importance of a personalized approach to sobriety. She stresses that there's no one-size-fits-all solution and encourages listeners to explore various resources such as therapy, meditation, and self-reflection to find what works best for them.
The episode is filled with valuable insights and practical advice, making it a must-listen for anyone interested in sobriety or supporting someone on that path. Whether you're newly sober or have been on this journey for a while, Molly's story and the supportive environment of the Seltzer Squad offer inspiration and encouragement.
