Gabriel's Transformation: From Teen Heroin User to Recovery Advocate

And it is absurd, like it's absolutely absurd to me, that this is what I get to do with my life and I love it.
Imagine starting your battle with heroin at just 13 years old. That's Gabriel's reality. His journey into addiction began with pills and escalated to heroin, despite his mother being a licensed social worker. Even with her professional background, she couldn't see the signs or find a way to save him. This heart-wrenching story shows that addiction spares no one, regardless of their upbringing or family background. By 16, Gabriel made a life-changing decision to get clean.
Now, with seven years of sobriety under his belt, he and his mother have turned their personal pain into a mission to help others. Together, they founded the Purpose Healing Center in Arizona, a sanctuary for those battling addiction. Their center offers not just therapy and support but also a beacon of hope for those lost in the darkness of substance abuse.
Gabriel's story is more than just a tale of recovery; it's a powerful reminder that addiction affects entire families, not just the individual. His mother's struggle to save him despite her expertise highlights the pervasive and indiscriminate nature of addiction. But their story doesn't end in despair. By creating the Purpose Healing Center, they've found a way to transform their suffering into something profoundly positive. Gabriel is also passionate about ending the stigma surrounding addiction.
He likens the #EndTheStigma movement to the #MeToo movement, believing that providing a safe space for people to share their experiences is crucial for healing. His own recovery was bolstered by the support he found in 12-step meetings and from loved ones who never gave up on him. Today, Gabriel is dedicated to helping others find their way out of addiction. His story is a testament to the power of support and community in the recovery process.
Listen to his full story on 'Escaping Rock Bottom' and be inspired by his message of hope and resilience. No matter how dire things may seem, there's always a path to a brighter future.
