You couldn't write this kind of stuff. I know it. Two weeks after my 8th birthday I thought I was going to Disneyland and I didn't. I went to San Bernardino, California. And then she took well first she took me over to Riverside, California to meet my dad's family and none of them were around. And so then she just dropped me off right to him. And he said I don't have time for a kid so they put me inside the the clubhouse and that was the first time I drank a beer and the first time I did a line of speed so what what did what was it like at eight scary I mean scary because I was confused and the crank makes you jittery and makes you nervous, makes you scared. So I was scared. I was more scared than I was when I walked up in there.
Imagine being told you're off to Disneyland, only to end up at a Hell's Angels clubhouse. That's exactly what happened to Michael Hodges when he was just eight years old. Instead of Mickey Mouse, he found meth and alcohol, introduced by his father. Now in his 50s, Michael has finally found his way to recovery, and his story is nothing short of miraculous.
In this episode of Odyssey House Journals, hosted by the ever-engaging Randall Carlisle and Kim Smart, Michael opens up about his tumultuous journey through addiction. He shares the heartbreak of losing his son to an overdose and the struggles he faced in breaking free from the grip of substance abuse. But this isn't just a tale of sorrow; it's one of resilience and hope. Michael's transformation, marked by 358 days of sobriety, highlights the power of support and tough love.
This conversation is raw, emotional, and ultimately inspiring, offering a candid look at the highs and lows of the recovery process. Whether you're on your own path to sobriety or supporting someone who is, Michael's story is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible.
