Changing Minds: The FIX Exhibit at Indiana State Museum with Cathy Ferree

We're trying to help take some of that away so that people can have an understanding. One, to change your vocabulary- and there is an interactive that talks about that. And the last one is to get Narcan Training. So, pre-pandemic, we had hoped to offer some consistent Narcan Training across the state, and once things get into the- I call it the next phase of covid, whatever that looks like, once we're able to go out again, we'll pick that training back up again, because it really has saved people's lives over and over again.
What if a museum could change how we see addiction? In this episode of 'The Addicted Mind Podcast', Duane Osterlind sits down with Cathy Ferree, the CEO of the Indiana State Museum, to talk about their groundbreaking exhibit, FIX: Heartbreak and Hope Inside Our Opioid Crisis. This isn't your typical museum display; it's an immersive experience that tackles the opioid crisis head-on, aiming to foster empathy and understanding.
Cathy shares her journey of creating this exhibit and the role museums can play in addressing such critical issues. Raised to be deeply aware of others' feelings, Cathy felt compelled to create a space where people could confront and learn about addiction in a compassionate setting. The exhibit dives into the history of opioids, offers interactive elements, and even provides Narcan training sessions. It's designed to shift perceptions and reduce the stigma surrounding addiction and mental health.
Cathy also discusses the community's reaction to the exhibit and how it has helped people better understand the opioid crisis. Tune in to hear how FIX is changing the conversation around addiction and offering hope to those affected.
