Understanding Addictions and Healing Your Inner Child with Dr. Eddie Capparucci
The thing that prevents them from being able to learn how to manage the addiction is shame. So, therefore, the addict was not the individual, was not the client, but the addict would be outside of the client and the client would then talk to that addict when he was starting to be triggered about something, to say what's going on, why are you doing this? No, I'm a broken individual, like everyone else, and this is my brokenness.
Ever wondered how childhood experiences shape your adult life and addictions? In this episode of 'GODCAST: The Goodness Over Darkness Podcast', Todd Armstrong chats with Dr. Eddie Capparucci, a Christian counselor who transitioned from a 25-year business career to a successful ministry. Dr. Eddie has worked with both high-profile clients and everyday people, treating all with the same compassion and respect.
Having overcome his own battles with sex and porn addictions, he now dedicates his life to helping others through his counseling practice and books. Dr. Eddie introduces his 'Inner Child Model', explaining how understanding the nine different inner children can help in healing from past traumas. He shares his belief that shame is a major barrier to recovery and encourages clients to separate themselves from their addiction, even talking to it when triggers arise.
Through candid conversations, both Todd and Dr. Eddie discuss their personal struggles with addictions and the lessons they've learned on their paths to healing through faith. Listeners will gain a deeper understanding of the connection between childhood experiences and addiction, the importance of emotional intimacy, and developing a healthy worldview.
