Before you know, I was very selfish, self-seeking and self-involved, and it's just been a beautiful, a beautiful journey, and it's only been Nine Months, Almost Nine Months, so it's just going to get better.
Growing up in a whirlwind of dysfunction, Gina Sacco's childhood was anything but ordinary. Hailing from Charlottesville, Virginia, and now residing in Richmond, Gina's life story is a tapestry of resilience and recovery. In this episode of 'Recovery Survey', she opens up about her tumultuous upbringing, marked by a split family and the chaos that came with it.
Despite the trauma, Gina managed to find silver linings, even joking about the abundance of Christmas and birthday gifts she received from her multiple family members. However, beneath the humor lay deep-seated struggles with addiction and an eating disorder that began in middle school. Removed from her household at 16, Gina's eating disorder vanished, but her battles with food, toxic relationships, drugs, and alcohol continued.
Today, Gina is a grateful alcoholic in recovery, drawing inspiration from her mother, who has been sober for over five years. Their relationship mirrors the dynamic seen in the TV show 'Mom', attending meetings together and supporting each other through their journeys. Gina also shares how virtual meetings during the pandemic played a crucial role in her sobriety, helping her explore new passions and strengthen her relationships.
