Aaron Barnes: From College Binge Drinking to Sober Coaching
I surrendered- you hear that word a lot in this- and I knew that I was going to die if I did not get sober...something happened that day where I just felt like this, like I felt free.
Imagine starting college with big dreams, only to find yourself spiraling into addiction. That's the story of Aaron Barnes, who joins Hilary Roberts and Jason Wahler in this episode of 'Let The Journey Begin'. Aaron, a nationally certified recovery coach and sober influencer, opens up about his turbulent journey through addiction and how he turned his life around. Growing up in a religious household, Aaron didn't encounter drugs or alcohol until his late teens.
But once he hit college and joined a fraternity, weekend binge drinking quickly escalated into a 20-year whirlwind of substance abuse, drug trafficking, and broken relationships. One of the hardest parts for Aaron was having children with three different women and being unable to be there for them because of his addiction. His family, deeply worried about his downward spiral, eventually helped him get the help he desperately needed.
Now, almost six years sober, Aaron shares the moment of clarity that led him to seek treatment. 'I surrendered- you hear that word a lot in this- and I knew that I was going to die if I did not get sober', he recalls. Through his story, Aaron emphasizes the importance of vulnerability and humility in recovery. His journey serves as a powerful reminder of the impact addiction can have on one's life and relationships.
Tune in to hear Aaron's inspiring story and maybe find a bit of hope for your own journey or for someone you care about.
