John's Path to Trust: Healing from a Painful Past

I learned very, very quickly from my mother: don't feel. And so I learned my alanonic behavior from them.
What happens when your own parents, the people meant to protect you, become the source of your deepest wounds? This episode of Steppin' Out Radio introduces us to John, an Al-Anon member who grew up in a household marred by undiagnosed alcoholism and abuse. John's father was physically abusive, while his mother inflicted sexual abuse, leading him to adopt a belief that no one could be trusted.
Struggling to form stable relationships, John turned to therapy, where his counselor recommended Al-Anon as a place to find solace and support. Through the fellowship, John began to unravel the toxic dynamics of his family and start the long process of rebuilding trust. With heartfelt reflections and candid moments, John shares how he learned to navigate his trust issues and embrace the supportive community of 12-step programs.
Host Drew adds his own insights, making this episode a must-listen for anyone grappling with similar challenges. Tune in to hear John's powerful journey of healing and transformation.
