Big Jim's Walk: From Addiction to Advocacy
The time is now to draw the line in the sand for addicts, alcoholics, over-eaters, porn addicts, it doesn't matter if you've got massive depression, if you've got spiritual issues. They're all together with the statement of faith that Jesus Christ is the only way to be able to get healed through anything of this addiction, that we are going to build the first large-scale national free recovery program, and we're not going to just build one.
Jim Downs, the man behind Big Jim's Walk, joins Omar Pinto on The SHAIR Recovery Podcast to share his raw and powerful journey from addiction to advocacy. Born in Fallbrook, California, Jim's life took a drastic turn when he started using drugs and alcohol at just 12 years old. The loss of his father at three and his mother to Alzheimer's in 2012 pushed him to the brink, leading to a suicide attempt that marked his lowest point.
But Jim's story is one of incredible resilience and transformation. He recounts how hitting rock bottom became the catalyst for a profound recovery journey, driven by faith and the support of his community. Jim's newfound purpose led him to establish Big Jim's Walk, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about addiction and building Camp Redemption, an addiction recovery center.
Through his foundation, Jim aims to offer hope and resources to those battling addiction, whether it's drugs, alcohol, or other dependencies. His story is a testament to the power of faith and community in overcoming life's toughest challenges. Tune in to hear Jim's inspiring tale and learn how he's turning his pain into a mission to help others.
